| Philippines, Mindanao Island, map | Philippine military officials say one person has been killed and three
injured in a powerful blast at a beach resort in the southern
Philippines.
Authorities say the bombing took place Sunday in the town of Lebak on Mindanao island.
A regional army spokesman (Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Ponce) accused
the rebel Moro Islamic Liberation Front of being responsible for the
attack. However, there was no immediate response from the group, which
has been waging a battle for independence.
The MILF and other Muslim rebel groups have fought for more than 40
years for a separate homeland in the mostly Christian country. More
than 120,000 people have died in the conflict.
