Kaplan Extended SLP

Dataset Identifier: Kaplan Extended SLP

One-Line Description: Kaplan Sea Level Pressure

Detailed Description: Reduced Space Optimal Interpolation procedure has been applied to the global sea level pressure (SLP) record of COADS and is averaged on 4x4 grid. The data set is consists of monthly values and values from 1856-recent times. The climatology is the 1951-1980 time period and the anomaly file uses that climatology. The data has been extended past the date in the main IRI file using the input source at http://markov.ldgo.columbia.edu:81/expert/%28/free/alexeyk/HA/slp/RSA_COADS_SLPext.cuf%29readfile/. Here is a complete description of the data set from the originators (http://iridl.ldeo.columbia.edu/SOURCES/.KAPLAN/).

Please note: If you acquire Kaplan SLP data products from PSD, we ask that you acknowledge us in your use of the data. This may be done by including text such as Kaplan SLP data provided by the NOAA/OAR/ESRL PSD, Boulder, Colorado, USA, from their Web site at http://www.cdc.noaa.gov/ in any documents or publications using these data. We would also appreciate receiving a copy of the relevant publications. This will help PSD to justify keeping the Kaplan SLP data set freely available online in the future. Thank you!
