Lessons Learned from Youth in Nine Countries
This 2006 report, Tobacco Use Prevention Media Campaigns: Lessons Learned from Youth in Nine Countries,
offers a look at some of the methods used in successful
youth tobacco use prevention campaigns.
The report indicates that the most effective
of these campaigns—
- Are part of a comprehensive tobacco control program.
- Include ads that provoke strong negative emotions, such as fear
and anger.
- Provide new information about health risks to smokers and nonsmokers.
- Engage youth with youth-oriented graphics and testimonials.
- Use multiple strategies and media channels.
- Expose youth to messages over significant periods of time.
