Governing Policy on Environment
It is the policy of Los Alamos National Laboratory that we will be responsible
stewards of our environment. It is our policy to:
- Manage and operate our site in compliance with environmental laws and standards
and in harmony with the natural and human environment
- Meet our environmental permit requirments
- Use continuous improvement processes to recognize, monitor and minimize
the consequences to the environment stemming from our past, present, and
future operations
- Prevent pollution
- Foster sustainable use of natural resources
- Work to increase the body of knowledge regarding our environment
LANL is committed to informing and involving the public in decisions that
may affect them. Enviromental staff will:
- Plan: prepare project specific Public Involvement Plans
(PIP) for all public meetings, publications, presentations and events;
- Use Key Messages: incorporate key messages in environmental
communication activities;
- Inform Executive Leaders: provide PIP’s to ADEP
and WES-DO for input and for central records;
- Coordinate internally to ensure that comprehensive and
accurate information is provided to the public
- Budget for environmental communication and public involvement
in annual business planning activities;
- Use feedback: review and use public input, and provide
feedback to the public;
- Evaluate: actively monitor, evaluate and apply changes
based on lessons learned; and
- Report on environmental communication and public involvement
outcomes and success stories.
