TA-21 Closure ProjectTA-21 UpdateWorkers at MDA B have finished the installation of a haul road that will be used to convey vehicles supporting the remediation work. They are completing the installation of a new facility perimeter fence. Reconnaissance Level Characterization (RLC) for the TA-21 D&D investigative effort at building 21-155, Tritium Systems Test Assembly (TSTA) is completed and the report is being prepared. DP Aggregate – Final site restoration activities have been completed and the waste has been shipped for disposal. TA-21, also known as the Delta Prime (DP) Site, is on DP Mesa, situated immediately east-southeast of the Los Alamos town site at an elevation of 7140 feet. TA-21 was the site of chemical research for refining plutonium and plutonium metal production from 1945 to 1978. As a result, most waste disposal activities involved plutonium. MDAs located at TA-21 include MDAs A, B, T, U and V. These MDAs are listed as solid waste management units (SWMUs) in LANL’s Hazardous Waste Facility Permit. TA-21 Decontamination & DecommissioningDelta Prime WestThe Reconnaissance Level Characterization from the TA-21 D&D investigative effort of Delta Prime (DP) West has been completed. Delta Prime East & the Central CorridorThe Reconnaissance Level Characterization for the TA-21 D&D investigative effort of DP East and the central corridor buildings will provide an initial assessment of the contamination, hazards, and other conditions associated with the subject facilities.
