CIT Computer Training Program—Summer 1999

Summer routines in the lab or office are often a bit less hectic, making it a great time to take a class or two to update and expand your computer skills in ways that will help you work more effectively during the rest of the year. The CIT training program’s summer session offers classes ranging from one-hour seminars to multi-session intensive courses. The term will run from the last week of June through early September.

New Classes Added

Classes on relational database, client/server, and networking will be featured this summer. A new seminar will discuss current developments in videocasting on the network and look ahead to the technology for delivering voice, data, and video over a single pipe. Following up on the popular introductory class offered in the spring term, April Merryman will lead a new Network Sniffer Workshop.

Statisticians and software specialists from MathSoft will present a series of topics in statistics and in the use of S-PLUS during a full-day program at the Natcher Conference Center in July.

Conversion to Office 2000 is beginning in some NIH components this summer and planning is under way for many others. To allow space for everyone who wants to come, Kami Vafai will offer an overview of the software in Balcony A at Natcher in early July.

Classes are still being scheduled, so be sure to check the course information on the Web or in the printed catalog. You can order a printed catalog by calling TASC or by going to http://cit.nih.gov and selecting the link for "publications."

Registering for Classes

Students can register via the Web at http://training.cit.nih.gov, by phone from TASC at (301) 59 GO-CIT (594-6248), or by sending or faxing in the form printed at the back of the catalog. All classes in the CIT program are offered without charge.

The CIT program is designed to help members of the NIH community use computers effectively and efficiently in their work. Registered users from other government agencies are welcome to attend classes related to their use of computing facilities at NIH. With approval from their NIH project director, contractors can take courses that are closely related to their current assignments when doing so is in the best interest of NIH. For recommendations on what courses to take or clarification on eligibility requirements, please call TASC.
