The
Maricopa County Air Quality Department is a regulatory
agency whose goal is to ensure federal clean air standards
are achieved and maintained for the residents and visitors
of Maricopa County. The department was created as a self
operating unit in November 2004 when the department separated
from Environmental Services.
There are nine divisions within the Air Quality Department
including:
Utilizes monitors posted throughout the county to measure pollution in the air.
May initiate measures to control anyone found to be in violation of applicable regulations, standards or permit conditions.
Formerly known as the Small Business Environmental Assistance Program (SBEAP), the Business Resource division's primary purpose is to assist small businesses that are or will be subject to requirements under the Federal 1990 Clean Air Act Amendment.
Is responsible for compliance inspections at construction and open burn sites and for approximately 150,000 vacant lots in the county, as well as reviewing dust control and burn permit applications.
Responsible
for enforcing and ensuring compliance with federal, state
and county air pollution control regulations.
Is
responsible for writing and issuing Title V, Non-Title
V, and General permits as well reviewing their applications .
Responsible for drafting and finalizing rules and managing emissions data.
Manages the Maricopa County Trip Reduction Program, including sections for Auditing and Research & Analysis,
for employers and schools.
The Voluntary Vehicle Repair and Retrofit (VVR&R) Program is designed to help high polluting vehicles meet
State of Arizona emissions standards.
The
Maricopa County Air Quality Department is governed by
the Maricopa County Board
of Supervisors
and follows air quality standards set
forth by the federal Clean
Air Act
.

our most vital, natural resource; air quality for the
people of Maricopa County so they can live and breathe
in a clean air environment. |
