IHTSDO Launches Global Health Terminology Workbench

The IHTSDO has launched a new Workbench with tools to develop, maintain, and facilitate the use of SNOMED CT in health systems around the world.
New UMLS Downloads Web page

UMLS-related downloads have been moved from the UMLSKS to the new Downloads Web page on the UMLS Web site. If the file requires a UMLS account, you will be prompted for your UMLSKS Login ID and Password. You will only have to enter your Login ID and Password once per browser session.
New UMLS Webcasts
January 13, 2009
The first two UMLS webcasts of 2009 are now available for registration. The topics are “RxNorm Update, MyMedicationList, and DailyMed” presented by Dr. Stuart Nelson on January 29 and “UMLS Source Release Documentation” presented by Rachel Kleinsorge on February 26. Additional topics will be announced as plans are finalized.

This documentation is designed to help users select sources that are useful to their applications and to understand how sources are represented in Metathesaurus format.

IHTSDO Seeking Proposals for Terminology
Toolset

The International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation (IHTSDO) is seeking proposals for the
supply and maintenance of a SNOMED CT multi-lingual modular workbench that will host terminology editing,
translation, mapping, and other applications. This SNOMED CT workbench is part of the IHTSDO’s on-going efforts to
enable broader access to, and use of, standardized clinical terminologies worldwide. As the U.S. Member of the
IHTSDO, the National Library of Medicine encourages interested parties to submit proposals. Open Health Tools (OHT)
is managing the RFP process on behalf of the IHTSDO. Those interested in submitting a proposal should register
their intention to bid by July 26, 2008. Proposals will be due by September 5, 2008. Copies of the RFP are

UMLS Web Services Sample Application

A new user contribution has been added to the UMLS Community Web page. The application is a sample client written
in C# that connects to the UMLSKS Web Services API and retrieves spelling suggestions for a given term.
NLM Invites Nominations for IHTSDO

NLM is soliciting nominations of potential candidates for the four IHTSDO Standing Committees – Content, Quality
Assurance, Research & Innovation, and Technical. These Committees have important roles in the ongoing
development of the SNOMED CT clinical terminology and the governance of the IHTSDO. Please submit nominations by
e-mail to Donnetta.Demyers@nih.hhs.gov by AUGUST 1, 2008. Each
nomination must be accompanied by complete contact information, a 1-2 page biosketch covering relevant expertise
and experience of the nominee, and a short (1/2 page) statement addressing her/his particular interest in and
qualifications for the specific Committee(s) of interest. Individuals may nominate themselves.
UMLS 2008AA Release Mailed to Users in New
Packaging

The 2008AA release of the UMLS Knowledge Sources on DVD was mailed to users in the first week of June. DVDs are now
mailed in environmentally friendly self-mailers made from recycled paper rather than the plastic-wrapped plastic
DVD cases. Users who have previously requested or received a DVD will receive the 2008AA Release DVD. To request a
DVD, send an e-mail to custserv@nlm.nih.gov. To speed processing, please
include your license code. Alternatively, the data can be downloaded from the UMLSKS.
