Hospital Discharge Rates for Diabetes as First-Listed Diagnosis per 1,000 Diabetic Population, by Age, United States, 1980�05

From 1980 through 2005, hospital discharge rates for diabetes as the first-listed diagnosis were higher among people aged less than 44 years or younger and those aged 75 years or older and similar among those 45–64 years and 65–74 years. During this period, the rates decreased among all age groups. In 2005, the hospital discharge rate for diabetes as first-listed diagnosis per 1,000 diabetic population was 67.5 for people aged 44 years or younger, 28.1 for those 45–64, 27.0 for those 65–74 and 36.5 for people aged 75 years or older.
