Barents Euro-Arctic Council (BEAC) is the forum for intergovernmental cooperation in the Barents Region. BEAC was established in 1993 in order to "provide impetus to existing cooperation and consider new initiatives and proposals".

BEAC wishes to provide you with extensive information about the history of the co-operation, its organisational structure, terms of reference and basic documents. And also information about the Region itself, maps, photos etc. This Website covers ongoing co-operation in several important fields such as energy, environment, economy etc. It is also a portal to numerous other fields of co-operation in the Barents Region.

Ministerial Session in Haparanda, June 2010

The Swedish Minister on Transport, Ms. Åsa Torstensson, invited Ministers and High Level Representatives to a ministerial session under the midnight sun in Haparanda on the 16-17 of June, 2010. The session stressed that the Baltic Sea Region and the Barents Region have to be seen as important regions with unique opportunities to link national growth initiatives and European endeavors in a regional context and thereby improve the economic growth opportunities to all citizens as well as trade and industry.

In addition the ministerial session also stressed the importance of cooperation across borders, inter alia in the field of transport to address the specific challenges and possibilities of this part of Europe.

Finally a declaration was adopted in Haparanda.

Meeting of the Steering Committee of the Barents Euro-Arctic Transport Area (BEATA) on the 16-17 of June, 2010, in Tornio, Finland

The first BEATA meeting under the Swedish Chairmanship was held in Tornio on the 16-17th of June, 2010. The meeting was attended by representatives from the Russian Federation, the Kingdom of Sweden, the Kingdom of Norway and the Republic of Finland. Sweden will be the chair of the committee for the period 2009-2011 and the aim for the meeting was to discuss and exchange information on long term actions. Read more...

Conference for Regional Politicians of the Barents Euro-Arctic Region

In connection with the II Arctic Murmansk International Economic Forum in Murmansk in September, the Murmansk Regional Duma invites regional politicians and other officials to the Conference for Regional Politicians of the Barents Euro-Arctic Region. First Barents Meeting for Competitiveness Ministers

are key areas to simultaneously increase the eco-efficiency and competitiveness of the Barents Region.

The Swedish Minister on Enterprise, Maud Olofsson, invited her Barents colleagues to a ministerial session in Umeå, Sweden on the 18th-19th of May, 2010. The aim was to discuss and agree on a common basis for cooperation taking concrete steps in unlocking the region’s great potential. Read more...

 

The XII Ministerial Session of the Barents Euro-Arctic Council  

On his way to the XII Ministerial Session in Murmansk in October 2009, the incoming BEAC Chair, Mr. Carl Bildt visited the International Barents Secretariat and the Norwegian Barents Secretariat in Kirkenes together with Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jonas Gahr-Store. The two ministers then travelled together with their delegations and media representatives to Murmansk. On the road they stopped in Nikel - the number one priority of the environmental hot spots in the Barents Region. Slideshow
