NMFS Announces Revisions to the Gulf of Alaska Pollock Trip Limits The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) announces revisions to regulations associated with Gulf of Alaska (GOA) pollock trip limits, effective 12 noon, Alaska local time, May 21, 2009, according to Robert D. Mecum, Acting Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.
These changes will prohibit operators of catcher vessels that are directed fishing for pollock in the GOA
The following table illustrates these changes.
A complete description of these changes is contained in the final rule implementing this action at http://alaskafisheries.noaa.gov/frules/74fr18156.pdf, which was published April 21, 2009. This action is necessary to prevent operators of catcher vessels from circumventing the intent of current trip limit regulations when making deliveries of pollock. This will ensure that pollock catch will be temporally and spatially dispersed in a manner that is consistent with the intent of Steller sea lion protection measures in the GOA. This information bulletin only provides notice of a regulatory change. For the purposes of complying with the regulatory change, you are advised to see the actual text in the Code of Federal Regulations. |
