Utah Guard Biathletes Compete at CNGB Championships

JERICHO, Vt. —  Bringing together a team of seasoned athletes and new-to-the-sport competitors was the order of the week for the Utah National Guard at the CNGB Biathlon Champion-ships held here March 2-7. Six athletes with .22-caliber rifles, alter-nating cross-country skiing and firing at a series of 100-yard targets, three races and temperatures ranging from single digits to nearly 50 degrees, all combined to give these Utah Guardsmen one thing at the Vermont National Guard’s Ethan Allen Firing Range:  Experience.

 

Redeploying is not easy, and there is help available for those coping with depression, PTSD or other post-combat struggles.

DRAPER, Utah Whether gone for two months or two years, returning from combat is grueling. Utah National Guard members need time to recover from the stress of a highly charged war zone. Most will adapt well after some time; however, if problems interfere with daily activities, it’s time to seek help from a healthcare professional.

Security Forces Team Supports Afghan High School

POL-E-CHARKI, Kabul Province, Afghanistan Soldiers from the New York National Guard delivered supplies to an Afghan school that family and friends had sent them. The school is located in a Kabul Province village east of the Afghani capital. Donations were shipped to Soldiers based at Camp Blackhorse, co-located with the Afghan National Army’s (ANA) Pol-e-charki garrison.

 

Soldiers from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the U.K. and the U.S. participated in CS 2008.

HOHENFELS, Germany — Making international headlines from Sept. 11 to October 10 were nearly 1,800 active-duty Soldiers from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, training together in Germany as part of Cooperative Spirit 2008, an ABCA-sponsored exercise that tested the interoperability of the major English-speaking militaries of the world.

The Utah National Guard participated in Real Salt Lake's inaugural game Oct. 9 at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy. A member of the 23rd Army Band sang the National Anthem, the Honor Guard presented the Colors, Airmen and Soldiers unfurled a giant flag on the field and an AH-64 Apache helicopter of the 211th Aviation flew over the stadium.
