SB 81: Illegal Immigrants and Human Services
While DHS is implementing Senate Bill 81, which restricts state agencies from serving adults in certain programs without proof of lawful presence in the United States; the majority of DHS services we provide are not impacted. Many of our services are provided to individuals under 18 which are not addressed in the recent legislation or are provided to protect health and safety or are already dependent on Federal Medicaid rules regarding lawful presence in the United States.

Children, vulnerable adults and elderly will continue to be protected from abuse without regard to their legal presence in the United States. The Department's services focus on the safety and well being of clients and the public.

What should disability services look like in Utah?
DHS Executive Director Lisa-Michele Church was asked to present ideas to the Legislature concerning the recent budget cuts to disability services. She explained to the Health and Human Services Interim Committee on June 17 just exactly what services are being cut and who is affected. The Committee then discussed where the state is headed in terms of future cuts and policy decisions that need to be made.
