Bryan County Fugitives Captured

SERFTF LogoTwo fugitives wanted by the Bryan County Sheriff’s Department were arrested by the U.S. Marshals Eastern North Carolina Violent Fugitive Task Force and the Bryan county Sheriff’s Department on January 26, 2009.

Christopher Hair, 26 and Jena Sterno, 19, were being sought on warrants issued in Bryan County for Sale of Controlled Substances. The two subjects were the last remaining defendants in the Bryan County/ CNT drug sweep conducted on January 23, 2009. The case was referred to the Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force to locate and arrest these subjects.

The investigation revealed that they had fled to the Fayetteville, NC area. Leads were sent to the Marshals Eastern North Carolina Violent Fugitive Task force for assistance in arresting them. Members of the North Carolina Task Force set up surveillance on a residence at 6746 Seaford Drive in Fayetteville, NC. While conducting surveillance, the Southeast Regional Task received notification that Jena Sterno had surrendered herself to the Bryan County Sheriff’s Department. The North Carolina Task Force members observed Hair in the backyard of the residence and arrested him without incident. Hair was taken to the local jail in Fayetteville, NC to await extradition back to Georgia.

Annually, investigations carried out by the U.S. Marshals result in the apprehension of approximately 36, 000 federal fugitives. More federal fugitives are arrested by the Marshals Service than all other federal agencies combined.

The Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force has three offices: Atlanta, Macon, and Savannah. The task force covers the whole state of Georgia. The Savannah Offices of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force is a team comprised of investigators from the Georgia Department of Corrections, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Department, the Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department and the United States Marshals Service. The task force objective is to seek out and arrest fugitives charged with violent crimes, drug crimes, sex offenders, and other felonies. Last year, U.S. Marshals Task Forces arrested more than 58,600 state and local fugitives on felony charges.
