| Franklin County Sex Offender Nabbed in Mississippi |

Columbus, OH – Sex offender, Steven R.
Jackson, is no longer able to hide thanks to the Southern Ohio Fugitive
Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST) and the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task
Force. Jackson was wanted by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department for
Failure to Provide Notice of Change of Address, and by the Ohio Adult Parole
Authority (APA) for Parole Violation. Jackson was previously convicted of
Rape. Investigations conducted by the U.S. Marshals led task force, SOFAST, showed Jackson was potentially hiding in Mississippi. SOFAST quickly coordinated with the other U.S. Marshals led team, the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, to close in on Jackson. Jackson was arrested in Gulfport, Mississippi on January 20, 2009. He is being held in a Gulfport area jail and will be transported back to Columbus to answer for his charges. Jackson has a long history of violent crimes that include crimes against a child, assaults, and drug and weapons offenses. U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of Ohio, James Wahlrab commented on the arrest, “This arrest adds credence to the old saying that you can run but you can’t hide. This dangerous fugitive thought that he could stay one step ahead by leaving Ohio, but geography doesn’t stop SOFAST and their far reaching efforts.” SOFAST is a multi-agency fugitive apprehension team led by the U.S. Marshals Service and comprised of the following law enforcement agencies in the Columbus area: U. S. Marshals Service, U.S. Attorney’s Office, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Columbus Division of Police, Ohio Adult Parole Authority, Ross County Sheriff’s Office, Grove City Police Department, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, U.S. Department of Agriculture – OIG, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Columbus Division of Fire, Reynoldsburg Police Department, Whitehall Police Department, Grandview Heights Police Department, Lancaster Police Department, and the Worthington Police Department.
