Funeral Shooting Suspect Arrested in Northern California
Hayward, CA - Yesterday afternoon at 2:00 PM, Latwan Brown, a 30 year old black male was arrested by Deputy U.S. Marshals from the Northern District of California at his mother’s residence on West Industrial Boulevard in Hayward, California.

Brown has been charged in the shooting death of 31-year-old Darshawn Cross that took place at the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Northeast Portland during a funeral for Cross’s grandmother. Since the original shooting, it is suspected that Brown’s step brother, Willie Butler Jr. was shot and killed in retaliation for the original shooting. Detectives with Portland Police suspect that at least four additional shootings are likely linked to the December 12th church homicide.

When they learned Brown was on the run, the Portland Police Bureau contacted their detective assigned to the Oregon Fugitive Task Force and through their combined efforts they developed leads in Northern California. This information was forwarded to the U.S. Marshals Office in San Francisco who developed further information ultimately leading them to the mother’s residence.

The U.S. Marshals Oregon Fugitive Task Force is comprised of investigators from the U.S. Marshals Service, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Portland Police Bureau, Oregon State Police, Multnomah County Probation & Parole, Clackamas County Probation & Parole, and the Oregon National Guard.
