Austin,
TX – David Chenu, 30, an Austin area jazz musician and leader of the
David Chenu Quartet was arrested last night by the Lone Star Fugitive Task
Force in San Marcos, Texas without incident. Chenu was indicted by a Comal
County Grand Jury on October 1, 2008, alleging six counts involving
indecency and aggravated sexual assaults against a minor child.
Chenu, who lives in Austin, was scheduled to
perform this evening according to his website, davidchenu.com at Evans
Auditorium, on the campus of Texas State University-San Marcos. It is
alleged that Chenu’s criminal conduct occurred in separate incidents in
November and December of 2007.
Chenu was remanded to the custody of the Hays
County Detention Center in San Marcos pending extradition to Comal County,
in New Braunfels, TX.
The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force was assisted by the Texas State
University-San Marcos Police. The task force is comprised of the Hays County
Sheriff’s Office, Austin Police Department, Travis, Williamson, Caldwell
County Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Marshals.
LaFayette Collins, United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas,
states, “The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force is committed to hunting down
criminals who prey upon innocent victims – our children. We will be happy to
send David Chenu back to Comal County where he will certainly have his day
