U.S. Marshals Arrest Shelby County Fugitive
Jose Ramirez in Hollywood, Florida |
|
On July 15, 2008, U.S. Marshals Florida Regional
Task Force (RFTF) members arrested Jose Ramirez in Hollywood, Florida.
On March 4, 2004, a warrant was issued for Jose Luis Ramirez by Shelby
County after Ramirez was charged with First Degree Murder in the shooting
death of Hector Leon. The Mid-South Fugitive Task Force (MSFTF) began in
August 2005 and adopted this case shortly thereafter. The MSFTF tracked
Ramirez to Enterprise, AL where Ramirez jumped from a two-story building,
leaving behind a pistol before eluding authorities. Ramirez was then trailed
to Virginia, where he changed his name to Juan Aguilar and changed his look
to include a Mohawk. In 2008, Deputy U.S. Marshals in Virginia learned that
Ramirez may have moved to North Carolina or Florida. Ramirez worked in
construction and traveled often. Mid-South Fugitive Task force members
followed up on these leads and asked for assistance from the U.S. Marshals
Task Forces in both of these states.
On July 15, 2008, deputies arrived in the early morning hours and found
Ramirez living in a shed in the back of the main residence on 36th street in
Hollywood, Florida. A vehicle was parked in the drive of the residence
registered to Ramirez’s alias, Juan Aguilar.
U.S. Marshal David G. Jolley commented, “This is a case the task force
adopted just after its inception and is a perfect example of the benefit of
such a task force. The task force takes the toughest of fugitive cases and
doesn’t give up. They follow the leads wherever they go, state to state,
until they get their man.”
The Mid-South Fugitive Task Force is composed of members from the U. S.
Marshals Service, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, the Memphis Police
Department, and the Tennessee Board of Probation and Parole. Additional
