James M. Wahlrab, United States Marshal for the
Southern District of Ohio, announces the arrest of Robert McGee. McGee was
wanted by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for Felonious Assault
(causing serious harm), Felonious Assault (with a deadly weapon) and
Aggravated Robbery (with a deadly weapon). It is alleged that on April 24,
2008, McGee was involved in a drug deal in the 4300 block of Riverside Drive
in Dayton, OH that quickly went wrong. McGee attempted to rob the victim
during the drug deal and allegedly shot the victim in the chest. The victim
was left paralyzed as a result of the shooting. After the shooting, McGee
fled the area with his girlfriend.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office
contacted the United States Marshals Service and requested assistance in
locating and capturing McGee. Due to the severity of the crime, the U.S.
Marshals made locating and arresting him a high priority. The case was
assigned to the fugitive hunting, multi-agency task force known as the
Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST), which is led by
the U.S. Marshals Service.
Through investigative leads developed by
SOFAST, McGee and his girlfriend were tracked through multiple states,
ultimately ending up in Los Angeles, California. At approximately 5pm last
evening, U.S. Marshals located McGee’S vehicle parked outside of a
relative’s house in Woodland Hills (a suburb of Los Angeles), California.
Marshals initiated surveillance of the area and at approximately 130am this
morning, their patience was rewarded when they observed McGee outside of the
house. With assistance from the Los Angeles Police Department, Marshals
approached the house where they were able to quickly apprehend McGee. McGee
was taken into custody and transported to the Los Angeles County Jail where
he will await extradition back to Ohio.
U.S. Marshal James Wahlrab stated, “This arrest highlights why it is
critical for federal, state, and local law enforcement to team together to
investigate and locate such dangerous fugitives. Criminals do not recognize
jurisdictional boundaries that often limit our partnering agencies. Through
tremendous collaboration and the efforts of our task force officers, we were
able to utilize all of the necessary resources across the nation to
apprehend this suspect.”
The U.S. Marshals Service was America’s first federal law enforcement agency
and each year arrests more fugitives than all other federal law enforcement
agencies combined. |
