Suspect in Child Homicide Case Arrested |
|
Columbus, OH – On May 8, 2008, the
Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST), along with the
Columbus Division of Police, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and
Explosives, and the Drug Enforcement Administration, arrested Jermaine
Riley. The 23 year old Riley has been wanted since November of last year for
Possession with Intent to Distribute more than 50 grams of crack cocaine and
for using a firearm in the commission of the offense. Combined, the crimes
carry a possible sentence ranging from 15 years to life in prison.
Riley was recently named as a suspect in the murder case of 9 year old
Kiyana-Shae Meilke. Police say that on June 15, 2003, a dispute occurred
between adults at Kiyana-Shae Meilke’s home. Later that evening shots were
fired at the home as the child lay sleeping. The child was struck by a
bullet and died as a result of the retaliation style crime.
Authorities learned that Riley was hiding out at the apartment of a friend,
at 4736 Stonecastle Court, on Columbus’ north side. Officers quickly
converged on the residence and Riley was arrested without incident.
Riley will appear before a Federal Magistrate Judge to answer for the drugs
and weapons charges as authorities continue to investigate his possible
involvement in the homicide of Kiyana-Shae Meilke. He is being held at the
Franklin County jail pending his court proceedings.
