Lexington, KY –
In one of the largest fugitive initiatives ever
undertaken in the Eastern District of Kentucky
(E/KY) area, the U.S. Marshals Service, teamed with
law enforcement agencies throughout the eastern
Kentucky area, arrested 141 fugitives and cleared
157 warrants during a recent six-day sweep. Led by
the U.S. Marshals Service, Operation FALCON (Federal
and Local Cops Organized Nationally) targets persons
wanted for sexual offenses, other violent crimes and
narcotics violations. Operation FALCON-EKY took
place June 2-7.
Of the 141 fugitives arrested, four were wanted for
sexual offenses, one for homicide, 39 for narcotics
and the rest were probation violations or failure to
appear on other serious charges.
“In the past two years, Operation FALCON has been
extremely successful in apprehending the worst
criminals in the Capital Area. This year was no
different, “said Carey Jenkins, U.S. Marshal for the
Middle District of Louisiana. “The efforts of the
past week can only serve as confirmation of how
effective we can be when law enforcement agencies
work together to achieve a common goal.”
Operation FALCON – E/KY was comprised of over 25 law
enforcement agents from six contributing agencies in
the Kentucky Area. Agencies participating in the
operation were the US Marshals, London PD, Kenton
County Sheriff’s Department, Lexington PD,
Taylorsville PD, and KY State Division of Probation
and Parole.
Since its inception in 2005, Operation FALCON has
made over 36,500 arrests and cleared over 45,300
warrants. It continues to be the largest and most
successful fugitive apprehension effort in U.S.
Marshals history.
