The list of participants at the 1953 symposium was impressive, including twelve scientists who would win Nobel Prizes: Frank Macfarlane Burnet, Delbruck, Renato Dulbecco, Carleton Gajdusek, Alfred Hershey, Francois Jacob, Luria, Andre Lwoff, Barbara McClintock, George Palade, Edward Tatum, and James Watson. Watson, along with Crick, had determined the double helix structure of DNA only months earlier.
