Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you “Healthy Moments” from the National Institutes of Health. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
Did you know that if you have kidney disease in your family, you’re at high risk for kidney failure? This risk is largely due to higher rates of diabetes and high blood pressure in our African American community.
If you have diabetes and/or high blood pressure, you can take these steps to help keep your kidneys healthy:
- Manage your diabetes.
- Keep your blood pressure below 130/80.
- Get blood and urine tests to check for kidney disease.
To learn more, order our Family Reunion Health Guide. For a free copy, visit the website nkdep.nih.gov or call 1-866-4 KIDNEY.
This is Dr. Griffin Rodgers. Join me next week for more Healthy Moments.
