S. 1382—Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Registry Act

On May 14, 2007, Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) introduced S. 1382, the ALS Registry Act. The bill would amend the Public health Service Act to require CDC to establish an ALS Registry. In establishing the ALS Registry, the Secretary, acting through CDC would be required, wherever possible, to identify and build upon existing public health and environmental infrastructure including the NINDS Human Genetics Resource Center DNA and Cell Line Repository. The bill would also establish the Advisory Committee on the National ALS Registry of which NIH would be a member. The companion measure is H.R. 2295, passed by the House on October 16, 2007. S. 1382 was referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions.
