Microforms Department
What are microforms?
A microform is a format in which documents, printed pages, etc. are photographed in a reduced size. The reason for this is primarily for convenience in storage. A microform format can be either microfilm, microfiche, micro-opaque, microprint or microcard, and can contain a vast amount of information in a very small space. These different formats then may be viewed by projection, and in the case of microfilm and microfiche may be photocopied to hard copy with a special reader/printer.
About the collection
Major research collections include ERIC documents, College Catalogs on Fiche, the SEC File (Annual Reports and 10K's for U.S. public companies), U.S. and Texas Population Censuses, UNT Dissertation and Theses, the Sabin Collection of Early American Imprints, American Periodical Series, and English Literary Periodical Series. Indexes to many individual microform sets are available.

Photocopies
For hard copies of microfilm and microfiche materials, printers are available to make photocopies during regular desk hours. Copies are 10 cents per page and can be paid for with a copy card.
There is a machine available to scan microcards and microprints. Copies can be made at 10 cents a page and picked up at the printer on the first floor.
University departmental accounts may be used for specialized printing services. Please consult the supervisor of this unit for assistance.
