County Records

Cooke County bound volumes and microfilm.

The University Archives serves as a depository for the microfilmed records of Cooke, Denton, Montague, and Wise counties in Texas.  These records are made available to UNT on microfilm by the Texas State Library.  Some paper ledger books from Cooke and Montague counties are also part of the collection.

The microfilmed records are available through interlibrary loan and have been used by genealogy researchers throughout the United States.  These materials include tax rolls, deeds, marriages, wills, probate, and naturalization records.

For Cooke County, ledgers including information about chattel mortgages, criminal dockets, civil dockets, and county school records are in the collection, in addition to microfilmed records.  There are also ledgers for Montague County that contain information about chattel mortgages, criminal minutes, and civil dockets.

To find microfilmed records for all Texas counties, refer to the website of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission at http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/arc/local/index.html
