Young Jeezy's Manager Denies Arrest Reports

Kevin C. Cox, Getty Images

One of the week's biggest stories has been the arrest of Atlanta rapper Young Jeezy before a performance in the Bahamas on Dec. 4. Details have been scant, but both the show promoters and local police confirmed that Jeezy was detained without citing a specific reason for an arrest. Notably, that goes against what the rapper's camp is saying. His manager is claiming that all of the reports are completely fabricated.

Jeezy's manager, Demetrius Ellerbee, got right to the point. "It's not true," he told MTV News last night -- a blatant contradiction to the events that the police department put forward to a Bahamian newspaper entitled The Tribune over the weekend.

"He was here with us a short while. He passed through the station briefly on Saturday," explained Ashton Greenslade, an officer at the Wulff Road station, at the time. "He was booked in here and taken to CDU (Central Detective Unit)."

T.I. Calls His Wife Twice a Day From Prison

T.I. may be locked up but that's not stopping him from communicating with his lady love, Tameka 'Tiny' Cottle. According to Tiny, the newlyweds keep in touch with one another ever day via email and telephone. "He called me checking in," she told Atlanta radio station V103. "He told me to tell you thank you and everybody 'thank you." I told him I was coming up here so he wanted me to tell everybody thank you for going out to buy [his new album, 'No Mercy'] and getting in and supporting him. He had to make other calls so he had to jump off with me really quick."

Tiny also said that she gets a phone call from Tip twice a day, alongside sending emails, which is the extent of his access to the web. "He can't, like, go on the internet and look at websites like that," she explained. "He can only email people on his list."

YouTube has taken its subscription service one step further. The streaming video site has announced the launch of the MyYouTube contest, where artists including Kanye West, B.o.B, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Chrisette Michele, Justin Bieber and more are encouraging fans to subscribe to their respective YouTube pages. In return, users will get the chance to win special prizes from the participants.

The contest, which runs until Feb. 5, involves more than 50 artists who have recorded special videos encouraging fans to subscribe to their pages. The artist with the most points accrued by the end of the competition will be added to a YouTube masthead, allowing users to subscribe to their page without having to leave the homepage. The placement is also beneficial to artists since videos on the main YouTube page get the most views. Internet hits are becoming more and more important. Billboard recently announced the new Social 50 chart which measures an artists' popularity on the Internet.

A group of '80s rap legends have joined forces to fight breast cancer by bowling.

The event, dubbed Hip-Hop Pin Drop, is scheduled to take place in January at New York City's Frames Bowling Lounge, and was organized by U.T.F.O.'s Kangol Kid, Roxanne Shante and film executive Shaunda Lumpkin, who lost her mother after a 3-year bout with the disease.

Hip-hop's forefather Kool Herc, Dana Dane, the Sugar Hill Gang, DoItAll of Lords of the Underground, Doc Ice of UTFO and Jam Master Jay's son Jason Mizell Jr., are among the artists included in the Hip-Hop Pin Drop, part of the Mama Luke Organization's attempt to spread breast cancer awareness "one pin at a time."

Birdman Says Prison Changed Lil Wayne's Rap Style

Alexander Tamargo, Getty Images

Prison did more for Lil Wayne than provide eight months of reflection time and solitude, it apparently also made him hungrier on the mic. According to Brian "Birdman" Williams, Weezy has a whole new approach to rapping, as he lays down lyrics for his upcoming 'Tha Carter IV' album.

"He brings a different swagger when he steps in the room," Birdman told The BoomBox. He is the definition of hard work. Doing time played a major part [in his rapping]. It gives us a different outlook as a team. He's rapping better than ever before -- it's magic. It's a different energy, its like we feel brand new again."

In the age of album sequels, Royce da 5'9" is the latest emcee to hop on the bandwagon. The Detroit rapper has announced plans to follow up his 2004 independent release 'Death Is Certain' with a sequel of sorts, renaming the LP 'Success Is Certain.'

"It ol be Death is certain part 2 but the word Death will be crossed out and under it will be Success.. Sooo.. 'Success is Certain' 2011,' announced Nickel Nine on his Twitter page. "A whole lot of introspective records. Not a lot of 'Gun Talk' on this one ... It will be classic."

After rejuvenating his career with the 2008 smash 'Only Built for Cuban Linx Pt. 2,' Raekwon has finished his follow-up and it's slated for a March 2011 release. The album, entitled 'Shaolin Vs. Wu-Tang,' is set to feature many of his Wu brethren such as Ghostface Killah, Method Man, GZA and Inspectah Deck, as well as outside icons like Nas and Black Thought.

"Shaolin Vs. Wu-Tang is done," Rae recently revealed on his personal H20TV YouTube channel. "It's coming in March. It's fire."

The album was originally announced as something of a return to basics after the release of the Wu's last album '8 Diagrams.' At the time, Raekwon showed dissatisfaction with RZA's production choices and control over the group. He said the record wasn't something that fans wanted from Wu-Tang Clan and promised to make 'Shaolin Vs. Wu-Tang' a street rap opus without any of the psychedelic hip-hop bent that RZA has been exploring.
