Overview: There is no action pending in the Alabama State Legislature or the Public Service Commission (PSC) regarding residential natural gas unbundling. The PSC staff is monitoring the natural gas unbundling activities and results of neighboring states. Industrial and commercial customers can contract directly for their gas or use the utility as an agent. These contracts are approved by the PSC as special contracts. |
EIA State Data: In 2004, Alabama had 806,175 residential and 65,040 commercial customers. They consumed 44 and 26 billion cubic feet of natural gas, respectively. The average prices paid for natural gas purchased from local distribution companies by residential and commercial customers were $ 13.34 and $10.91 per thousand cubic feet, respectively. |
