Duties

As Chief Information Officer, Bill Underwood is responsible for management and operations; design and implementation of software applications and systems; planning and management of network and data security; and procurement for the EIA community. As Director of the Office of Information Technology, Bill is responsible for the leadership and supervision of three divisions, 70-person federal/contractor staff, who perform/provide user help desk services, IT facility and operations support, IT system and network security, IT policy and planning functions, legacy systems support, and IT procurement services.

Biography

Bill Underwood came to the Energy Information Administration in July 2000. Prior to joining the Department, he was the Director of the Office of Information Technology for the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) at the US Department of Transportation. He also served as the Chief of Administrative Systems Development for Farmers Home Administration at the US Department of Agriculture. While serving as EIA's CIO, Bill served concurrently 6 months (Sept 01-Feb 02) in the Department of Energy's Office of the Chief Information Officer as the Acting Deputy Chief Information Officer.
