Welcome to the Department of 4-H Youth Development and Family & Consumer Sciences
There are many issues facing youth and families in North Carolina. However, many of the issues facing families across the state cut across three major themes: Economic Opportunity, Educational Excellence, and Health & Well-Being.These themes encompass issues such as entrepreneurship, job training, literacy, drop-out rates, after-school care, healthy and successful aging, family care giving, childhood overweight, food safety, teenage pregnancy, gang violence, science education, and financial management.
The Department of 4-H Youth Development and Family & Consumer Sciences is uniquely positioned to address the most important issues facing North Carolinians today.
The Department has faculty with youth and family technical expertise to address the critical issues facing North Carolinians on the individual, family, community, state and policy directions levels.
With over 60 on-campus faculty and staff, 250 county-based field faculty, over 34,000 county-based volunteers and over 208,000 youth (ages 5-19) the Department leads and partners in various initiatives that directly impact youth and families in North Carolina.
We welcome your input, advice and partnership as we move forward to serve the youth and families of North Carolina and the nation.
