CEAH Spatial Analysis
Team (SET) creates and maintains various GIS products that
fulfill the Veterinary Services' mission to protect and promote
animal agriculture.
National Mapping Systems
Veterinary Services’ National Mapping Systems (NMS) trains field staff in standardized methods for collecting geographic coordinates using global positioning system (GPS) equipment. NMS also builds mapping expertise in each Area Office.
Emergency Management Response System (EMRS) Mapping Module
The EMRS Mapping Module is a web-based application allowing authorized users to view, query, and print customized maps of a livestock or poultry disease investigation. It taps into the EMRS database housing investigation data and combines that data with base layers like state outlines, roads, and rivers for orientation.
In addition to basic map navigation tools, the Mapping Module contains customized analysis tools for spatial and epidemiological analysis. The Mapping Module can summarize spatial information and produce tables for further analysis. This tool is utilized in disease outbreaks and routine animal disease investigations.
VS Atlas of Animal Health Information: a Spatial Data Library
The VS Atlas is a spatial data library that organizes geographic data in a centralized structure and serves it up in a standard, easy-to-use format. It provides Veterinary Services' staff with frequently used geographic data layers that have been processed for immediate use in maps and spatial analyses. The VS Atlas Extension is a custom tool that works within ESRI’s ArcGIS software program, connecting a user directly to the spatial data library. This tool allows users to preview and download spatial data directly from the VS Atlas Library. Data can also be added to other GIS applications. Rapid access to preformatted data will simplify common spatial tasks related to surveillance, epidemiological investigations, environmental analyses, and emergency response.
Map Kiosk for Premises Action Plan Mapping
The Map Kiosk provides rapid-fire production of the mostly commonly requested maps in an animal disease emergency. This application utilizes ESRI's ArcGIS software which allows multiple users to submit map requests simultaneously via a web-based form. Emergency responders select from several predefined map templates.
The map or spreadsheet is sent
by email or printed to a local printer. The Map Kiosk will
handle stndardized map production allowing the SET unit to
concentrate on data acquistion and spatial analysis.
