Arizona Drought Monitoring (December
precipitation data was
on Febuary 15th) Preliminary February precipitation data
will be posted by March 15th
Drought
conditions update (as of February 17th) - For the period
February 11th through 17th, dry weather previaled during the past
week. Due to dryness of the past several month across southeast Cochise
county, this area was downgraded to abnormally dry. Otherwise no changes
were made on this weeks National
Drought Monitor with no short term drought across the remainder
of southeast Arizona. HOWEVER, long term drought
conditions continue to persist across the region with LARGE multi-year
precipitation deficits to overcome.
Outlook through
February 24th. Strong ridge of high pressure will bring much above
normal temperatures to the area this weekend into early next week before
temperatures cool off a bit as the ridge weakens. For the latest forecast
information, please check out the forecast
discussion from NWS Tucson. The next
update to drought conditions across southeast Arizona will be during the
week of February 24th.
