Minister of Justice and Attorney General; Keeper of The Great Seal; minister responsible for constitutional affairs; minister charged with the administration of The Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation Act; and minister charged with the administration of the Manitoba Gaming Control Act.

David Chomiak was born in Winnipeg’s North End and resides in the West Kildonan area. He and his wife, Rita, are the parents of two sons.

Prior to Dave’s successful election in September 1990 as the MLA for Kildonan, he was a lawyer in private practice. Dave was Executive Assistant to Ed Schreyer as Premier of Manitoba and Special Assistant to Ed Schreyer as Leader of the Opposition.

Dave was re-elected in the 1995, 1999, 2003 and 2007 general elections.

Dave has served on the boards of the Hoosli Ukrainian Male Choir, Ed Schreyer’s Canadian Shield Foundation and the Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Centre.

He has been active in the Rusalka Dance Ensemble and the Big Brothers Association of Manitoba.

Prior to the general election of 1999, Mr. Chomiak served as the New Democratic Party Critic for Health and the Critic for Education and Justice.  He served as Minister of Health from 1999 to October, 2004 when he was appointed to the Energy, Science and Technology portfolio.

On September 21, 2006 Premier Gary Doer appointed Dave the Minister of Justice and Attorney General.
