Website Statistics: Readership Statistics

Yearly statistics for pages views and estimated visitors from 1998 through December 31, 2008. Definitions for page views and visitors are given below.

A "page view" is defined as a request for a displayable page, such as the main page of JOE, an article, or the search page. "Page views" represents an actual, hard number of pages "served."

For our stats system, a "visitor" is defined as a series of hits from any particular computer’s "address." If any two hits from a single computer are separated by 30 minutes or more, two visitors are counted. "Visitors" represents an extrapolated number, because we really have no way of tracking who is viewing our website.
