| In Iowa, SARE funds helped support sustainable agriculture training of Iowa secondary agriculture instructors. 165 Iowa vocational agriculture instructors attended 5 sustainable ag session, where they received training on alternative livestock direct marketing strategies for use in the classroom. The State Sustainable Ag Coordinator has received a request for additional training in 2007 and 3 follow-up requests (3) for additional information. This was in collaboration with the ISU Department of Education and Studies and the Iowa Department of Education.
Jerry R. DeWitt is a long-time sustainable agriculture leader at the state, regional and national levels. He was appointed Director of the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture for a three-year term beginning January 1, 2007. He also coordinates the Iowa State University Extension's Sustainable Agriculture Program and The Iowa Learning Farm. DeWitt is an accomplished photographer and has visited many farms throughout Iowa, nationally and internationally. His photographs have been published in two books: People Sustaining the Land (Vagnetti and DeWitt, 2002), and Renewing the Countryside - Iowa, a 2003 project supported by the Leopold Center.
