Justice Department Files Voting Rights Lawsuit Against the City Of Boston (05-401)
The Justice Department announced today that it has filed a lawsuit against the
City of Boston for violations of the Voting Rights Act. The suit alleges that
the city’s election practices discriminate against citizens of Spanish, Chinese
and Vietnamese descent in violation of section two, and that the city has failed
to provide Spanish language information to voters who need it in violation of

Federal Court Bars Missouri Tax-Return Preparer from Preparing Federal Income Tax Returns (05-398)
The Justice Department announced today that a federal court in St. Louis has
permanently barred Ella Mae Peterson, of St. Louis, Missouri, from preparing
federal income tax returns. In entering the permanent injunction, Judge
Catherine D. Perry of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of
Missouri also ordered Peterson to provide the government the names, mailing and
e-mail addresses, and Social Security and telephone numbers of customers for
whom she prepared any tax return, amended return, or refund claim for tax

Justice Department Announces Eight Charged in Internet Piracy Crackdown (05-395)
Acting Assistant Attorney General John C. Richter of the Criminal Division;
Gretchen C. F. Shappert, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North
Carolina; and Robert F. Clifford, FBI Acting Special Agent-in-Charge of the
Charlotte Division, today announced that eight individuals were charged with
criminal copyright infringement in Charlotte, North Carolina, as part of an
ongoing federal crackdown against the organized piracy groups responsible for
most of the illegal distribution of copyrighted movies, software, games and
music on the Internet. These are the first federal indictments arising from the
Charlotte-based FBI investigation that identified targets in both Operations
FastLink and Site Down - the two largest and most aggressive international
enforcement actions against criminal organizations involved in the illegal
