Who is Manitoba’s Premier and what party does s/he lead?
Premier Gary Doer is the leader of the New Democratic Party of Manitoba. His administration took office October 5, 1999 and were re-elected on May 22, 2007. Premier Doer is the Province’s 20th Premier.

Where can I get copies of, Acts (Statutes) and Regulations for Manitoba?
The Manitoba Queen’s Printer - Statutory Publications is the central distribution centre for acts statutes), regulations and other Legislative material, the Manitoba Gazette, the CCSM (Continuing Consolidation of the Statutes of Manitoba), Special Sets and Re-enacted Regulations. Current copies of publications are available in person, by telephone, mail, fax or Internet:

 How can I get records of births, marriages or deaths?
To obtain copies of birth, death and marriage certificates for events occurring in Manitoba contact the Vital Statistics Agency of Manitoba Finance.  If you need other identification replaced, please click on this link.

To order a certificate for yourself, your spouse or your child, you must complete an application form and provide all relevant information. Applications are available from the Vital Statistics Agency or on the Website. Drop in, fax or mail your request. The fees for certificates are $25 for either wallet-sized or frame-sized certificates. Payment can be made by cheque, money order or credit card (VISA or MasterCard). Cheques and money orders should be made payable to the Minister of Finance. You can drop off the completed application, along with the fee, at the Vital Statistics Agency or send it by mail or fax.

How do I find government-related business information?
There are a number of government sources that provide business information such as possible loans or how to start a small business. The best place to begin is with the Canada/Manitoba Business Service Centre. They provide accurate, timely and relevant referrals to business-related government information.

Who do I contact to register a business name in Manitoba?
The Companies Office registers information about corporations and business names in Manitoba. It also maintains a registry of names under which business is conducted. To register or incorporate a trade name, application must be made to the Companies Office and the proposed name is reviewed to ensure that no other business has an identical or similar name to the one you want to use for your business. Application forms are available in person, by phone, fax or can be downloaded from the Companies Office Web site.

The Companies Office is now offering secure online reservation of business or corporate names. If you are planning to go into business, or if you are changing the name of your company, the name of the company has to first be searched at The Companies Office, and reserved if it appears to be available. You can now apply to reserve your company name over the Internet 24 hours a day.

How can I get information about hunting and fishing in Manitoba?
A wide array of information on hunting and fishing is available from the Travel Manitoba Hunting and Fishing Web and the Manitoba Conservation’s Hunting Guide site.

As well, a variety of free travel information kits are available.

Where can I find information about job opportunities in Manitoba?
If you are seeking employment opportunities within the provincial government, all jobs are posted on the Civil Service Commission’s ACCESS Manitoba Online site at www.gov.mb.ca/csc/index.html. The telephone information service Access 1-2-3 is also available. It links the job information lines of the Government of Canada, Government of Manitoba and City of Winnipeg governments. Information is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Please call 204-984-4636. In rural Manitoba, you may access the provincial government job line only at 1-800-878-3544 or TDD (telecommunications device for the deaf) 945-1437.
