Can Lifestyle Interventions Slow the Disease Process?
We now know that exercise, a healthy diet, and not smoking can help people stay healthy as they grow older. Research has shown that several chronic diseases andconditions that commonly affect people as they age—including diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and high blood pressure—are heavily influenced by lifestyle factors. Investigators are realizing that AD also may share some of these risk factors and have even begun to examine how lifestyle might contribute to the overall emotional health and cognitive abilities of older adults. A number of studies have shed light on this important topic.
