22 April 2005

U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee visited Lynnwood-based Crane Aerospace & Electronics. The visit included a presentation of the company's new AirWeighs Real-Time Weight and Balance System for Aircraft, a tour of the factory where the Weight and Balance System will be manufactured, and a discussion with Crane employees and executives. Crane Aerospace & Electronics employs about nine hundred people in Washington state, including over six hundred people at its Lynnwood facility. Last year, Inslee helped secure $2 million in federal appropriations for an AirWeighs C-130 system.

AirWeighs is designed to provide significant improvements in flight safety by giving aircrews the ability to accurately measure aircraft weight and balance before take off. Operations from short, unimproved runways; through a range of elevations; in all weather conditions; and, not infrequently, in hostile fire zones, make accurate weight and balance information even more critical to safe flight operations.
