Welcome to Edison Report-Lite
The Edison Report-Lite Module (ERL) was developed by the Office
of Policy for Extramural Research Administration, National
Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland.
The Report-Lite Module
is designed to extend the querying and reporting capabilities of the
Edison system, an extramural invention tracking and management
system. The objective of this module is to assist federal staff in
accomplishing the goal set forth by the Bayh-Dole Act which is to
encourage commercialization of federally-funded inventions by
providing our grantees and contractors, such as universities,
with the right to own inventions derived through federally-funded
research. In return for the right to retain title to
federally-funded inventions, grantee and contractor organizations
are formally obligated only to meet the mandated reporting
requirements stated in 37CFR Part 401.14.
Although it is the
responsibility of grantee organizations to implement the Bayh-Dole
requirements, federal agencies have a responsibility to provide
guidance to grantee recipients, to ensure compliance with the law
and associated grants management policies, and to monitor and
assess the intellectual property generated from federal support.
Therefore, the purpose of the Report-Lite system is to support
these activities by providing federal staff with a mechanism for
querying and reporting on inventions derived through grants and
contracts for which they are responsible.
