Theft of Veterans’ Personal Information from the VA Floor Statement

Washington, DC— Mr. Speaker, once again the administration has put our nation’s veterans at risk.  First it was the under-funding of the Department of Veterans Affairs in Fiscal Year 2006, and now it is the security breach of twenty-seven million veterans’ personal information.  The administration has jeopardized the financial future of tens of millions of veterans because it failed to implement safeguards and adequate security measures at the request of the VA Inspector General.

On behalf of the forty-two thousand veterans that I represent, I call on the President to act immediately to safeguard these brave veterans from identity fraud.  We must protect our veterans who have protected us. It is the right thing to do.
