CIT Computer Training for the Fall
Leslie Barden, CSB
CIT’s fall training program will kick off on September 18th with more than 70 classes being offered. Classes will include such favorites as PC Troubleshooting, Parachute Startup for Windows 95, and Fundamentals of UNIX. Several new classes that have been added include Dealing with Difficult Customers, Learn Web Application Development with Tango, NIH Email and Directory Service for Administrators, and Mac/PC Interchange for Scientists.
Within the area of SAS, two new courses have been added. In addition to such SAS stalwarts as SAS Fundamentals I & II, and SAS Macro Language, now being offered are Using SAT/STAT Procedures to Perform Categorical Response, and Applied Statistics and the SAS Programming Language.
Java also gets a new class with the addition of Java GUI Programming. This programming course teaches practical graphical user interface (GUI) development in Java. Topics that will be covered include Java beans, Java networking, object-oriented methodology constraints in Java, and what’s new in Java 1.1.
CIT has improved the training registration process. As soon as your application for training has been processed, you will be sent an email containing a hotlink to your individual training record for the current term. By bookmarking this site, you can check at any time to see what classes you have scheduled.
The reminder process has also been automated. In the past, several days before a class, students would receive a phone call from a member of the CIT training staff to confirm their class attendance. Now students will receive an email reminder and can call back at their convenience.
As always, CIT training classes are free to all users of NIH computer services. Registered users who are not a part of NIH are eligible for courses related to their use of NIH computing services. Prospective students can call (301) 594-3278 to receive a training catalog, as well as register for classes. Registration can also be done via the Internet, by visiting the Livewire web site at http://livewire.nih.gov.
