- Provides detailed descriptions and access to the building blocks and the interoperability framework the NCI uses to develop cancer information management systems.
- Lists areas in which the NCICB is seeking participation in expanding the various open source development activities.
- Provides access to user groups and documentation used by developers working with caCORE components.
- Provides access to a variety of bioinformatics research tools in the areas of biology, genomics, proteomics, clinical trials support, laboratory support, and vocabulary and common data elements.
A few of these tools are downloadable, but most are web-based. In some cases, the web-based tools require an account which is easily obtainable. Downloadable tools will also be listed in the Downloads section.
- Describes research efforts that are supported by the components in the Infrastructure section and the applications in the Tools section.
For example, the cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid™, or caBIG™, is a voluntary network or grid connecting individuals and institutions to enable the sharing of data and tools, creating a World Wide Web of cancer research. The grid relies on the core-level Infrastructure components to provide a high-level of interoperability and common data standards. caBIG™ is also delivering applications built using Infrastructure components.
