- Portfolio Analyses
The Office of Science Planning and Assessment (OSPA), in service to program staff and the NCI Executive Committee (EC), conducts regular portfolio analyses that are used by the EC when making programming decisions. When a new RFA is proposed, OSPA works with the program manager to develop a portfolio analysis of research that may be relevant. These analyses support program staff and help the EC make programming decisions to fund research that is needed the most and leverage resources when possible.
- Intramural Program Review
NCI laboratories and branches are subject to systematic site visits and performance reviews. The purpose of the site visit is to facilitate a review of the research program quality within the Center for Cancer Research (CCR) and the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG) by extramural ad hoc reviewers and members of our Board of Scientific Counselors (BSC).
- Extramural Program Review
Extramural activities at NCI generally fall under two broad categories: research contracts or research grants. Performance of a research contract is determined by measuring progress toward deliverables. Performance of a research grant is measured by assessment of annual reports.
