About the Director, Dennis Coleman
Dennis Coleman accepted his appointment
as Director of the NIH Office of Community
Liaison in August 2006. In this capacity,
he manages the research, coordination and
outreach activities by which internal and
neighboring communities affected by NIH
and surrounding area developments are informed,
listened to, and collaborated with on issues
of common interest.
His education includes a BA degree in
Philosophy from Duquesne University in
Pittsburgh, PA; graduate studies in mechanical
and nuclear engineering at the University
of Idaho’s National Lab Extension
Campus; and a JD from Santa Clara University
School of Law in Santa Clara, CA.
His professional background includes:
- 15 years of engineering simulation and
R&D work with Westinghouse Electric
Corporation, Getty Oil Company and Idaho
National Engineering Lab;
- 6 years of product development and
marketing management experience with
Control Data Corporation; and
- 8 years as an elected City Councilman
and Mayor of Half Moon Bay, CA.
Mr. Coleman has authored some 30 publications
covering subjects ranging from government
and industry R&D progress, to technical
papers for professional engineering journals
and conferences, to business editorials
and commentary for the computer industry
trade press.
