NORTHEAST REGIONAL OFFICE
OVERVIEW
The Northeast Regional Office, located in New York City, works in collaboration with HSF's national headquarters to host Town Hall Meetings and Steps for Success Saturdays and inform high school counselors and other educational leaders about its outreach initiatives. The office also acts as a local contact for HSF Scholars and the HSF Scholar Chapters on college campuses throughout the region. In addition, the office seeks support for the organization from regional and local corporations, businesses, foundations and individuals.
NORTHEAST DEMOGRAPHICS
According to 2004 Census statistics, the states surrounding the New York office have growing Hispanic populations. In New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, Hispanics comprise between 10.6 percent and 16.1 percent of the total population. New York City is ranked as the second largest Hispanic market in the country. More than one out of every four people who live in New York City is Hispanic, accounting for just over 2.1 million people. During its 32-year history, HSF has awarded over 9,108 scholarships to students in the Northeast region*, totaling more than $25 million. In the 2006-2007 academic year, HSF awarded 373 scholarships in the Northeast, valued at almost $2.6 million.
*The Northeast region is comprised of the following states: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
MISSION
The Northeast Regional Office was established to better equip Northeast Hispanic families with key information about higher education and the financial aid opportunities available to them.
Through the San Francisco HSF headquarters, the Northeast Regional Office offers the following programs:
