TIBERI NAMED TOP REPUBLICAN ON MAJOR TAX SUBCOMMITTEE
Tiberi To Be Ranking Member On The Select Revenue Subcommittee

Washington, Jan 9 -

U.S. Congressman Pat Tiberi (R-OH) today was named the top Republican on the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Select Revenue.  The Subcommittee serves as the starting point for consideration of all federal revenue-related measures before the Committee.

“I look forward to working with Subcommittee Chairman Richard Neal (D-MA) as we consider tax legislation in the coming years,” said Congressman Tiberi.  “I believe the way to jumpstart our economy and bring stability to families is by making sure workers are keeping more of their hard-earned money through tax relief.  The future of the nation’s tax policy is one of the most important issues we’ll consider in the coming months and I’m ready to hit the ground running.”

In recent years the subcommittee considered such diverse issues as individual retirement accounts, education tax incentives, aviation taxes, tax incentives for affordable housing, energy and tax policy, and the Alternative Minimum Tax.

Congressman Tiberi will also sit on the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Social Security and the Subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support.

“As more and more Baby Boomers retire and begin to receive their Social Security benefits, we already know we’re looking at an unprecedented time when more benefits are being paid out of Social Security than funding coming in to the benefit program.  If nothing is done, this will have dire consequences when our children reach retirement age.  I anticipate some difficult discussions and some tough decisions to come, but I hope that we can improve the Social Security program so our children and grandchildren will continue to receive the benefits similar to current retirees,” added Congressman Tiberi.  “During these difficult economic times, I know many Central Ohioans are struggling to make ends meet and I know by sitting on the Income Security and Family Select Subcommittee I can help make responsible decisions to make sure they’re receiving the benefits they need to put their families back on track.”

Congressman Tiberi was named to the prestigious Ways and Means Committee in January 2007.  During the 110th Congress (2007-2008) he served on the Oversight Subcommittee and was the Ways and Means Designee to the Budget Committee.
