ISSUES/LEGISLATION

Tim speaks to press

From the time I was elected to the United States House of Representatives, I have fought for South Dakota's families. From issues like military pay and health care to education and housing, helping the people of my state has always been my top priority. Find more information using the topics below.

Agriculture
From the time I was elected to the United States House of Representatives, I have consistently supported the South Dakota family farmer and rancher.

American Indian Affairs
With over 550 Indian tribes and Alaska Native villages in the United States, nine Indian tribes are located within the boundaries of the State of South Dakota.

Banking
As a senior member of the Senate Banking Committee, I consider fiscal responsibility a critical foundation of our economy.

Budget
I will continue to do all that I can to direct our nation's resources to an agenda that meets America's domestic needs and our international moral obligations.

Defense
Throughout my career in the Congress, I have been a strong proponent of better funding for military pay, health care, education, and housing.

Economic Development
Rural states like ours must continuously work hard to grow and prosper in an ever-changing economic environment.

Education
I have worked to make sure our children receive quality early education, elementary and secondary education, and have access to affordable and quality post-secondary education.

Energy
As a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, I have worked to strengthen markets for South Dakota's ethanol facilities and increase production of soy-based biodiesel.

Environment
As a member of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, I will continue working to protect our nation's precious natural resources.

Foreign Affairs
While foreign aid comprises less than one percent of the federal budget, it still has a significant impact on foreign policy and military concerns.

Health
As a member of the Senate Rural Health Caucus, I have worked with my Senate colleagues from both political parties to push for greater equity for rural patients and providers.

Hometown Prosperity Plan
Though we have already made great strides in strengthening and diversifying our economy, we're still not where we want to be.

Housing
I am a staunch advocate of rural housing needs and I use my position as a member of the Appropriations Committee to further South Dakota's housing opportunities.

Nutrition
Even in this country of abundance, the sad reality is that many families lack the necessary resources to feed themselves and their families.

Social Security
I am strongly opposed to the President's continued attempts to create private accounts within Social Security.

Technology
I will continue to fight for accessible and affordable Internet technology across the state.

Trade
Free trade doesn't mean fair trade, and fair trade is crucial in keeping our agricultural producers in the fold.

Transportation
Because of the great distances we travel in South Dakota, we are extremely dependent on surface transportation for economic development and daily life.

Veterans
I believe we need to do more to live up to our obligations to veterans.
