The statement of U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson on the eve marking 40 years since the murder of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.:

In remembering the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King on a day that marks 40 years since his senseless assassination, I am reminded of the words Robert F. Kennedy spoke in delivering the news of Dr. King's death to an audience in Indiana.  ‘What we need in the United States is not division; what we need in the United States is not hatred; what we need in the United States is not violence and lawlessness, but is love and wisdom, and compassion toward one another, and a feeling of justice toward those who still suffer within our country.’  This is what Dr. King stood for.  This is his legacy to our nation – that all Americans have an equal chance to reach their highest goals.”
