Grassley: $400,000 to Iowa from U.S. Department of Justice

  

           

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs has awarded two grants totaling $400,000 to Iowa through the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws Block Grants Program and the 2008 State Justice Statistics Program.

 

          “These funds will enhance both the effort to curb underage drinking and to ensure that

Iowa ’s justice system is running efficiently by collecting and analyzing data,” Grassley said.

           

The funds will be distributed from the U.S. Department of Jusice as shown below.

 

v     Iowa Criminal and Juvenile Justice Planning Agency in

Des Moines will receive a $350,000 grant through the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws Block Grants Program to help support and enhance state and local efforts to enforce laws prohibiting the sale or consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors.

v     Iowa Department of Human Rights in

Des Moines will receive a $50,000 grant through the 2008 State Justice Statistics Program to help develop an Iowa prison population forecasting model, maintain and update information for the website, and provide data on deaths in custody to the Bureau of Justice Statistics.
